My paper, Hypothyroidism and Cognitive Impairment, was selected by my professor to be an artifact because it represents all course objectives from this class. It demonstrates my learning of the expected program outcomes in the following manner.

First, I am able to identify the key components of a research project and can distinguish between quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods. I have completed a comprehensive draft proposal for my research project and I have also identified a potential grant resource for my project. I have engaged in a comprehensive literature review, which adds merits and validation to my problem statement. I have completed a pilot and received invaluable information from it that will enable me to ascertain even more during the completion of this project next spring. I can articulate human rights in relation to research issues and I have completed a draft institutional review board (IRB) package. I can also identify common ethical dilemmas and can confidently propose solutions to them.

This artifact reflects my learning of personal goals for the program by incorporating, through a narrative auto-biography; powerful information and implications that I believe will be beneficial to me for years to come. The data that I am collecting is unique in and of itself. During all of my research this semester, I have not come across any documentation such as this and I feel the benefits could be enormous to both the medical and educational fields. It is substantial enough given the amount of medical documentation of cognitive impairment during hypothyroidism and I am confident that this research project will shed even more light on the subject in a real and personal matter, but with reliability and validation as well.

I will use this course personally to ensure that I am the best possible advocate for my health. In the future, I may use the research techniques from this course in a Doctorate program. Or, at the very least, I will be a savvy consumer!
